Brandon M. Hernandez, 29, is now charged with threatening to "bomb and shoot" New Jersey Child Protection and Permanency buildings and Superior Court judges in Hackensack.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced in a news release that Cyber Crimes Unit detectives from his office began investigating a "pattern of social media posts" by Hernandez last November.
He specifically cited NJCP&P buildings and county judges, a complaint filed in Superior Court in Hackensack by Bergen County Prosecutor's Detective Yousef S. Fattah.
Prosecutor's detectives who reviewed the posts obtained an arrest warrant and began looking for Hernandez, a Fair Lawn native, in areas of Paterson that he was known to frequent, authorities said.
Bergen County sheriff's officers found and arrested him on Robert Street on Jan. 11, Musella said.Hernandez was brought in custody to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for an evaluation before being transferred to the county jail.
A judge in Hackensack subsequently ordered that he remain held pending further court action on charges of making terroristic threats and cyber-harassment.
Among his previous offenses, Hernandez was charged six years ago with posting threats to kill Fair Lawn police and their families on his and their social media pages.
Assisting in the case were sheriff's officers from Bergen and Passaic counties, the Paterson and Port Authority police departments and agents from the DEA, Musella said.
